Os Filhos de Lumière was created by a group of filmmakers as a project aimed at raising awareness to cinema among children and youngsters. It develops a solid and constant intervention in the field of film education, realizing workshops gathering filmmakers, teachers, children and youngsters, schools and cultural spaces, giving access to film culture – portuguese, european, and from the world of all times and styles – generating a basis for reflexion and meeting with film and community.

Our methodology combines observation and reflection on what is the language of cinema through the films of different directors and the practical experimentation, with the guidance of filmmakers.

Our main program O Mundo à Nossa Volta integrates O Primeiro Olhar – an intensive film workshop for children; Cinema, cent ans de jeunesse – international project coordinated by the Cinémathèque Française, developed in collaboration with schools, Filmar – workshop of initiation to film for teachers and educators.

Since 2014 “Os Filhos de Lumière” has become a member of ‘Moving Cinema’, a european project led by A Bao A Qu (Spain), started together with Meno Avilys (Lithuania).
