The Youngest ‚Young Spectators‘ at Giro Giro Film 2019Youth Center Koper
The second edition of Giro Giro Film - Film Days for Children, Families and Youth, came in the beginning of the 2019/2020 school year, specifically between November 11 and 17, 2019. Primary school students from Koper and its surroundings were able to choose between most recent European films and Slovenian classics and got to know the world of Young Programmers.
For those 12 years old and older, we offered two film afternoons featuring Fight Girl (Vechtmesje, Johan Timers, Netherlands / Belgium, 2018) and Goodbye, Berlin (Tschick, Fatih Akin, Germany, 2016), where we combined the screenings with introductory sessions for groups of Young Programmers. Thus, we presented to more than 130 primary school students at the Koper Youth Center the functioning and purpose of the Young Programmers‘ group and gathered new applications. Due to the high interest, the talks lasted for over an hour.
For fans of the classics and the curious ones, we also prepared a programme for learning about film history. The pupils of the 3rd triad of primary schools attended the screening of One Fine Day (Tistega lepega dne, France Štiglic, Slovenia, 1962, 83 min) and learned that in 2019, 100 years have passed since the birth of one of the fundamental Slovenian film directors, France Štiglic, therefore the screenings at Giro Giro Film were dedicated to honoring his work. His film One Fine Day is considered the first ever feature film in Slovenia and one of the most internationally acclaimed films, which was also awarded at the Cannes Film Festival.
