Slovenian national holiday, named This Joyous Day of Culture, every February 8th brings many exciting cultural contents to the country. Gymnasium Koper dedicated attention to this holiday the day before and organized a Cultural Marathon, a day full of inspiring cultural activities.

We joined them with Moving Cinema by organizing two activities; a screening of the documentary Sonita (Rokhsareh Ghaem Maghami, Germany/Switzerland/Iran, 2015) was prepared for the Young Spectators, and a short film workshop was prepared for a group of filmmaking enthusiasts.

Seventeen students, from the first to the fourth year of high school, took up their mobile phones and explored the film language with them. In five hours they were first introduced to the theoretical foundations and approaches in film art and discussed them in detail, and then all of the participants were divided into four groups and set out to school corridors, rooms or the courtyard. With the task of creating a single frame on ‘Light and Faces’, they came up with imaginative ways to solve the task that had several limitations, even though firstly they struggled with questioning what they could even say with a single frame. The four very short videos they created in groups, each in their own way, tell the story and the emotions within the frame.
