15-17 year old students participate at the screening of the Lithuanian short film "Triukšmadarys" by Karolis Kaupinis (The Noisemaker, Lithuania, 2014) at cinema theatre “Romuva”. A conversation with the film director Karolis Kaupinis and his short presentation about narrative structure in films follow the screening.

The film Triukšmadarys represents the new generation of Lithuanian filmmakers. It tells the story of a school located in a small village. The school faces the risk to be closed down due to the lack of students. Triukšmadarys depicts the efforts of the headmaster of the school to fight for the future that does not exist. The film was awarded as the Best Baltic short film at the film festival “2Annas” (Latvia) in 2015.

The film director Karolis Kaupinis was asked by the organizers of the screening to prepare in advance a short presentation about the films which significantly influenced his creative work, film narrative and film form. The film director introduced his film before the screening. Having watched Triukšmadarys, students started a conversation with him. They were mainly focusing on the genesis of the idea for the film. Karolis Kaupinis turned this discussion into the conversation about the creative process which leads from a script to a film.

The young film director discussed the film plot and the choices he made in Triukšmadarys. Later on, he introduced students to the usual script structure and talked about different film narration forms. He presented four different film prologues by screening the first minutes of these films: Jodaeiye Nader az Simin by Asghar Farhadi (A Separation, Iran, 2011), Schaste moe by Sergei Loznitsa (My Joy, Germany, Ukraine, Netherlands, 2010), Post Tenebras Lux by Carlos Reygadas (Mexico, France, Netherlands, 2012)  and Uzak by Nuri Bilge Ceylan (Distant, Turkey, 2002). The students actively joined the discussion about the different prologue scenes and expressed their preferences and opinions. Also, Karolis Kaupinis shared his personal story about his way into cinema.
