The Centre for the Moving Image (CMI) was established in 2010 with a mission to be at the forefront of the development of a vibrant and successful film industry and culture across Scotland and beyond, seeking to increase the range and quality of opportunities for people to be inspired by and engage with film and the moving image. The CMI is a registered Scottish charity, incorporating Edinburgh International Film Festival, Filmhouse in Edinburgh, and the Belmont Filmhouse in Aberdeen.

Filmhouse is renowned as a venue for dynamic programming and debate. Our key aim is to challenge, inform and entertain through the delivery of an essential, intelligent and enlightening programme for all audiences, whether through formal education, informal courses or professional development. CMI’s key film education programme Understanding Cinema involves school groups across Scotland and seeks to develop young people who are confident in their critical viewing of cinema and have the ability to create their own films.  Throughout the year Filmhouse offers and extensive programme of films for school pupils, public evening courses, filmmaking workshops and one off events to support moving image education.

Edinburgh International Film Festival is the longest continually running film festival in the world and has a reputation for debate, discovery and the development of new talent. The EIFF Youth Hub is for young people 16-26 years who are interested in cinema and potentially are interested in careers within the film industry.

The inspiring programme of masterclasses, workshops and careers/ academic advice has welcomed film directors, actors and others who have premiered their films at EIFF. EIFF Young Programmers have been working with the Festival since 2013 and are involved in curation, marketing of films and hosting public discussions with visiting filmmakers.
