We are preparing the new Moving Cinema website for 2025

A secondary school class program to realize a film screening, devoted to European arthouse documentary films in a cultural facility or movie theater, open to the public and especially addressed to other young people.

Description

The students discuss some documentary films accompanied by a professional filmmaker and their teacher and select one of them. Then the students organize the screening of the film for other students in a movie theater or in a public cultural venue. They also are in charge of the communications strategy for the screening.

The workshops take place within school hours and are combined with related learning content.

Relevant aspects

  • The filmmakerprepares a list of 4-5 documentary films (the length of each film should be no longer than 40-45 minutes) about themes related to recent history and social, political and economic changes in Germany. The students watch these films together with the filmmaker and the teacher in the classroom.
  • The duration of each workshop is 2 hours (8-10 Workshops in total).
The filmmaker and the teacher moderate the discussion. The students decide by consensus which film they will select.
  • The screening is above all addressed to young people, first of all to other students of the same school and their friends. The communication of the screening is based on posters at the school, social media and personal connections of the students.
  • Due to the type of themes of the documentary films, the young programmers also try to reach other audiences like their families and older people via traditional media and announcements on local newspapers. They are also invited to participate in the discussion after the screening.
