The Filmoteca de Catalunya has hosted groups of Young Programmers in various formats in 2018-2019 and 2021-2022.
For their first edition, they programmed a monthly cycle with titles like News from Home by Chantal Akerman, in which the Young Programmers group asked several filmmakers to write a text about what the film and Akerman’s cinema had meant to them, or the double session "Où en êtes-vous?" and "Cravan vs Cravan" by Isaki Lacuesta; and with some very special sessions, such as the one dedicated to Llarga Vida Varda, with which, one year after the death of the filmmaker, the group wanted to “celebrate her cinema and her inexhaustible spirit through four short films.” Llarga Vida Varda was one of the first sessions at the Filmoteca de Catalunya after the COVID-19 lockdown, in 2019.
In 2021-2022, the “Young Programmers Weekend” was held with ‘Where is the Lost Time?’, “five portraits of youth with filmmakers distant in time but close in their cinematic spirit: Ermanno Olmi, Chantal Akerman, Michel Brault, Mia Hansen-Løve, and Caroline Pitzen.”
The Filmoteca de Catalunya is committed to the preservation and dissemination of audiovisual heritage and cinematic culture, with a special focus on Catalan cinema. Based in the Raval area in Barcelona, it has two screening rooms and a program of five daily sessions.
