Throughout the year Filmhouse offers and extensive programme of films for school pupils, public evening courses, filmmaking workshops and one off events to support moving image education.
Young Programmers have hosted their selection for the EIFF in 2016, 2017 and 2019. In 2017 they presented a monthly programming. They organized three screenings from January to March, which were the first Moving Cinema screenings of that season.
In 2016, the Young Programmers from Edinburgh presented various events at the EIFF – Edinburgh International Film Festival. They interviewed guests from different films in front of a young audience (15 to 25 years old), including actors, directors, editors, costume designers, and makeup artists.
In 2017, Young Programmers from Edinburgh, aged 15 to 19, organized three monthly screenings at the Filmhouse from January to March. They were responsible for film selection, communication, and poster design. The first screening featured 71, with screenwriter Gregory Burke joining for a Q&A on screenwriting and filming. In February, the group presented the sold-out Mustang, a Turkish-French film, followed by a discussion with Ashley Thompson from Shakti Women’s Aid on domestic abuse. The third screening showcased Céline Sciamma's Girlhood, with Dr. Claire Boyle from the University of Edinburgh leading a discussion on race, gender, and class.
