Cinemateca Portuguesa

2014-2016

Cinemateca Portuguesa, established in 1965, is Portugal’s leading institution for the preservation, promotion, and exhibition of film heritage. Based in Lisbon, it holds one of the most extensive film archives in Europe, featuring over 40,000 titles, ranging from early cinema to contemporary works.

The Cinemateca is a vital space for cinema enthusiasts, offering a mix of film screenings, retrospectives, and festivals that span across national and international cinema history.

It serves as a cultural hub for scholars, filmmakers, and audiences, with a mission to preserve the history of cinema through educational programs, film restorations, and public screenings. The Cinemateca Portuguesa also acts as a research center, offering invaluable resources for anyone interested in the study and preservation of the cinematic art form in Portugal and beyond.

In 2014, 2015 and 2016, Os Filhos de Lumière hosted there the Cineclube das Gaivotas with participants from various schools of Lisbon.
