Alternative Screen

Filmvorführungen in Kinosälen

13 Mrz 2015 - 11 Mrz 2016

A Bao A Qu

Auditori de Sant Martí, Barcelona

A group of young people aged from 15 to 19 years old, programme a film series of auteur cinema at the Sant Martí Auditorium (Barcelona), a cultural venue from the municipality. They get together every week, to organize a monthly screening. The group is responsible of the selection of the films, the communication, the design of the posters, etc. They are mentored by film professionals from A Bao A Qu.

From March 2015, a group of young cinephiles from 15 to 19 years old are organizing Alternative Screen, a film series of auteur cinema especially addressed to young audiences. The collective has named itself ‘Unió Jove Alternativa Cinemàtica’ (‘Young Alternative Cinematic Union).

The screenings take place once a month on Friday at 19h30. The young members of UJAC select the films, create the design of the communication formats, elaborate the information sheets, present the films, invite filmmakers and film professionals to participate in certain screenings and organize the Q&A sessions. The programme is clearly committed to auteur cinema, thus creating a space where young people can discover an unknown cinema for the majority of them, or a cinema that is difficult for them to access.

The young group meets weekly, every Friday evening. In the meetings, they talk about cinema, watch excerpts from possible films to programme, discuss how the screenings will be organized and arrange diffusion and communication actions. In the meetings, also professionals from A Bao A Qu’s team participate.

In the framework of Moving Cinema as well, young people participate in the screening and dialogues within film festivals and cinemas.

For the development of different actions, the group organizes commissions: contents, diffusion, design. During the first months of the project, A Bao A Qu organizes specific meetings with different professionals to give them ideas, strategies and tools. In this way, for example, they have had meetings with designers or social network specialists.

The screenings are free and opened to all movie enthusiasts. They take place in the Sant Martí Auditorium, a municipal venue recently inaugurated, which is aimed at fostering and invigorating cultural activity in the district located at Barcelona’s periphery, which didn’t count until recently on any cultural venue.
